Abstract
Using a sensor developed in the author's department, normal and fricti on forces have been measured at the interface in the cold rolling of a luminum. The development of the sensor has been published previously f or an aspect ratio (width/thickness) of 2.3, the results obtained in t he use of the sensor showing that fraction is not constant throughout the roll gap but varies with time. A redesigned sensor, based upon tha t of the earlier design, has been used successfully to conduct a serie s of further tests for several different aspect ratios; the intention being to observe the effect of aspect ratio upon friction. The results of these experiments are presented and discussed.
