This article presents an adaptive remeshing finite element method to s
alve heat transfer problems by mixed convection. Solutions are obtaine
d in primitive variables using a high-order finite element approximati
on on unstructured grids. Two general estimators are developed for ana
lyzing finite element solutions to planar and axisymmetric mixed conve
ction heat transfer problems. The methodology is applied to heal trans
fer predictions for two cases of practical interest.
