Ca. Malaga et al., HEMATOLOGIC VALUES OF THE WILD-CAUGHT KARYOTYPE-V OWL-MONKEY (AOTUS VOCIFERANS), Laboratory animal science, 45(5), 1995, pp. 574-577
Blood samples from 35 wild-caught owl monkeys (Aotus vociferans, karyo
type V) were analyzed to estimate reference intervals of hematologic v
ariables for the species. Findings indicated that distributions were a
bnormal for leukocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, and monoc
ytes. Statistically significant sex differences, too small to be of cl
inical importance, were found in values for mean cell hemoglobin conce
ntration, leukocytes, and basophils. Reference intervals for the hemat
ologic variables were calculated by the nonparametric percentile estim
ation method. Comparison of hematologic reference values for wild-caug
ht A. vociferans with those of A. nancymae revealed statistically sign
ificant differences for packed cell. volume, mean cell volume, leukocy
tes, eosinophils, basophils, and platelets. These differences also app
eared too small to be of clinical significance.
