Abstract
The magnetization processes of two-dimensionally periodic and nanomete r-scale Co dots formed on a reconstructed Au(111) surface were explore d utilizing the magneto-optical Kerr effect. The magnetization process es were affected by the size of the Co dot. At room temperature, super paramagnetic behavior was observed below about 0.5 ML Co coverage, abo ut 35 Angstrom dot diameter. A ferromagnetic transition of the whole s ystem was visible above about 1.1 ML.
