C. Train et al., SPECTROSCOPIC PMOKE EVIDENCE OF AU CO SEGREGATION IN A AU50CO50 COVERLAYER DEPOSITED ON CO(0001)/AU(111) WITH PERPENDICULAR ANISOTROPY/, Journal of magnetism and magnetic materials, 165(1-3), 1997, pp. 417-420
We report the results of spectroscopic magneto-optic polar Kerr rotati
on experiments on Au/Au50Co50/Co/Au (111) ultrathin magnetic structure
s prepared by evaporation in UHV, with different Co and Au50Co50 thick
nesses and perpendicular easy magnetization axes. Previous in situ RHE
ED experiments have shown a surfactant effect during Au deposition on
Co(0001) in the monolayer range. The spectroscopic MOKE data give new
proof that during deposition of the alloy Au50Co50, separation takes p
lace between the Au and Co; the Au atoms segregate and grow at the top
of the Co layer.
