Abstract
In a modem, hectic, and stressful intensive care unit, sedation is an important aspect of care, and every nurse and physician in a critical care setting must be familiar with it. This article describes older mo dalities of sedation, including barbiturates and neuroleptics, and com pares them to a more recently developed drug, propofol.
