Abstract
An exact treatment of the invariant imbedding equations for the magnit ude and the phase of the amplitude reflection coefficient of short one -dimensional disordered conductors yields an infinite mean conductance , in agreement with earlier work assuming a uniform distribution of ph ases. This contradicts the result of a heuristic but internally incons istent analysis of the imbedding equations by Pradhan and Kumar [Phys. Rev. B 48, 5661 (1993)].
