Abstract
This paper describes the work at BT Laboratories on set-top boxes (STB s), for the BT interactive multimedia services (IMS) trials. An overvi ew of the trial STB's architecture is described together with a predic tion of the future STB architecture following the evolution of standar ds. The most likely topologies for networks within the home are discus sed, and finally a prediction of the functionality for STBs in the fut ure is made.
