Bg. Quinn, DOPPLER SPEED AND RANGE ESTIMATION USING FREQUENCY AND AMPLITUDE ESTIMATES, The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 98(5), 1995, pp. 2560-2566
A parametric form for the received ''instantaneous frequency'' of a pu
re tone is derived for the case of relative straight Line motion betwe
en source and receiver. Ferguson and Quinn [J. Acoust. Sec. Am. 96, 82
1-827 (1994)] have recently described an algorithm which, given a sequ
ence of high-accuracy frequency estimators, produces estimators of the
closest distance between the source and receiver, the relative speed,
the rest frequency, and the time at closest approach. In this paper,
an improved algorithm which uses amplitude estimators as well is intro
duced, and the statistical behavior of the estimators derived. The tec
hnique is automatic and will work even if only a section of the Dopple
r track is available. (C) 1995 Acoustical Society of America.
