The results of studying 25 spring wheat cultivars and somaclonal regen
erants in 1989 - 1992 are presented. Most cultivars are shown to posse
ss three dominant alleles of the R gene. According to Bekker [1], stab
ility and expression of red color depend on the number of dominant R g
enes. Cultivars with R1R2R3 genotypes are characterized by glassy red
grain. The breeding value of red wheat cultivars and prospects of usin
g genotypes with three dominant R alleles for creating red analogues i
n common wheat are discussed.
