Thermal treatment of Ce-2(OPri)(8)((PrOH)-O-i)(2) yielded Ce-4(mu(4)-O
)(OPri)(14) by desolvation under mild conditions. The tetranuclear oxo
alkoxide has been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, H-1 NMR
and X-ray diffraction. The structure is described as e-4(mu(4)-O)(mu(3
)-OPri)(2)(mu-OPri)(4)(OPri)(8)]. The Ce-4(mu(4)-O) core corresponds t
o a distorted flattened tetrahedron, with two hexa- and two hepta-coor
dinated metals. The Ce-O bond lengths spread over the range 2.03(2) to
2.54(1) Angstrom, and follow the order Ce-OR < Ce-mu OR < Ce mu(3)-OR
