S. Stadler et al., DETERMINATION OF THE FIRST HYPERPOLARIZABILITY OF 4 OCTUPOLAR MOLECULES AND THEIR DIPOLAR SUBUNITS VIA HYPER-RAYLEIGH SCATTERING IN SOLUTION, Chemical physics letters, 245(2-3), 1995, pp. 292-296
The first hyperpolarizability beta of four octupole-like molecules and
their dipolar subunits has been measured via the hyper-Rayleigh-scatt
ering technique at 1064 nm. The octupolar molecules are tertiary amine
s with a fully sp(2)-hybridized nitrogen as central atom. The peripher
al groups are either phenyl or diazabiphenyl units which are acceptor-
substituted. The octupolar molecules exhibit high beta-values 2.5 to 4
times larger than those of their dipolar subunits at comparable absor
ption wavelengths.
