Abstract
A system for studying the in vivo activity of Rhizobium NodC protein i n Escherichia coli has been developed, Using thin-layer chromatography , high-performance liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry, we sh ow that in this system R. leguminosarum by. viciae NodC protein direct s the synthesis of chitinpentaose, chitintetraose, chitintriose, and t wo as yet unidentified modified chitin oligosaccharides.
