For many years, nerve biopsy has been very useful for clarifying the m echanism and aetiology of human peripheral neuropathies. Recently, thi s morphological examination has greatly benefited from the contributio n of new immunocytochemical, ultrastructural and molecular biological techniques,. which can often be used together in studies on inflammato ry, paraproteinaemic and genetic neuropathies.
