A MODIFIED MEDIUM AND METHOD FOR THE CULTIVATION OF CHLOROFLEXUS

A modified anaerobic medium and cultivation conditions for Chloroflexa ceae are described which assured almost complete anaerobiosis for grow th and maintenance. All tested strains of Chloroflexus aurantiacus and Chloroflexus aggregans were successfully grown within relatively shor t times with fun pigmentation, indicating that the new medium and redu ced cultivation conditions were most suited for photoautotrophic growt h. The anaerobic conditions and the presence of sulfide also favored p rolonged viability during maintenance as liquid cultures.
