M. Slosarek et al., RAPID DETECTION OF MYCOBACTERIUM-KANSASII IN WATER BY GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHY MASS-SPECTROMETRY, Journal of microbiological methods, 27(2-3), 1996, pp. 229-232
Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) was applied to measure tu
berculostearic and 2,4-dimethyltetradecanoic acid in shower-water samp
les and in artificial water suspensions of Mycobacterium kansasii. Bot
h of these branched-chain fatty acids were identified in all samples t
hat produced at least 62 colony-forming units of M. kansasii after 4 w
eeks of incubation. GC/MS can, therefore, be used for the rapid detect
ion of M. kansasii in water.
