Abstract
In this paper we obtain the equivalence of the large deviation princip le for Gibbs measures with and without an external field. For the Isin g model, the equivalence allows us to study the result of competing in fluences of a positive external field h and a negative boundary condit ion in the cube Lambda(B/h) as h SE arrow 0 for various B. We find a c ritical balance at a value B-0 of B.
