Coincidence measurements have been made between He-4/H-1 and a second
particle (He-4/H-1) produced in the reactions 905 and 1030 MeV Sb-121
+ Al-27 and 550 and 750 MeV Kr-86 + Cu-63. All four of the reactions l
ead to composite systems of Tb-149 or Gd-148* which facilitates compa
risons of matched reactions. In the two Sb-121 + Al-27 reactions and t
he 550 MeV Kr-86 + Cu-63 reaction, the particle-particle coincidences
are dominated by processes that lead to evaporation residues. In the 7
50 MeV Kr-86 + Cu-63 reaction, about half of the H-1 and He-4 are asso
ciated with evaporation residue production. These particle-particle co
incidences arise from cross sections that are subsets of the total eva
poration residue cross sections. The derived individual particle chain
lengths are similar to 2 for both protons and alphas in each of the f
our reactions. The particle multiplicities and subset cross sections a
ssociated with the evaporation residues are quite similar for the matc
hed reactions, in contrast to fission-like processes where spin-depend
ent entrance channel effects were observed.
