We present a new approach to calculating the magnetoresistance due to
weak electron localization in 2d for percolating thin films, directly
taking into account their fractal properties through the concept of an
omalous electron diffusion. Our approach yields excellent agreement wi
th experimental data for thin inhomogeneous gold films. From the analy
sis we obtain the anomalous temperature dependence of the phase cohere
nce length L(phi)(T) and the percolation correlation length xi(p). The
results of our calculation confirm that weak electron localization in
2d is modified by the fractal properties of thin percolating films.
