Abstract
A study is made of the direct and inverse problem of magnetostatics fo r the case when the magnetic permeability of the specimen depends on t he coordinates. It is shown that in contrast to the direct problem, th e inverse problem - finding values of magnetization (or the distributi on of magnetic permeability) from the known resulting field outside th e specimen - does not have a unique solution in the general case.
