The excited states of Rb-78 have been investigated by means of in-beam
and beta-gamma spectroscopy. The production of Rb-78 and the beta rad
ioactivity of Sr-78 have been made through the Fe-54(Si-28,3pn) and Fe
-54(Si-28,2p2n) reactions, respectively. Four rotational bands have be
en observed in the high-spin band structure. The signature splitting i
s large in the two bands, while the other two bands have small splitti
ng. A detailed low-lying level scheme of Rb-78 has been constructed fo
r the first time via the beta decay of Sr-78 in order to search for a
linking transition between the high-spin band head and low lying state
s.
