Ae. Nascimento et Gm. Campostakaki, EFFECTS OF SODIUM DODECYL-SULFATE ON THE GROWTH OF CANDIDA-LIPOLYTICA, Revista de Microbiologia, 26(2), 1995, pp. 140-143
The effects of an ionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate, on the gro
wth of Candida lipolytica were studied. Surfactant concentrations of 0
.07%, 0.09% and 0.11% were added to the culture medium at different ti
me points of the growth curve (0, 8, 16 and 24 hours of culture). The
growth of Candida lipolytica at 27 degrees C was evaluated over 96 h b
y viable cell counts (CFU/mL), maximum growth rate and generation time
. The inhibition of growth observed was dependent on the addition time
and concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate used; no inhibitory effec
t was detected when the surfactant was introduced at time 24 h of cult
ure.
