Abstract
The formation of charge transfer complexes of some aromatic amides wit h tetracyanoethylene is investigated by electronic absorption spectros copy. For the complexes, thermodynamic properties and equilibrium cons tant for complex formation are obtained. In general, good agreement is found between our results and those found in previous studies. The in fluence of the structure of amide upon electron donor ability is deter mined. The benzene ring is thought to be site of charge transfer. The IR spectrum of the amides is also studied.
