Preparation and properties of particulate composites with Y-TZP matrix
and WC inclusions was studied. It was found that application of the n
anometric zirconia powder gave possibility to reach composites of high
densities by pressureless sintering at 1400 degrees C and 1500 degree
s C. Increased fracture toughness and hardness and exceptionally high
wear resistance of the composites compared to the ''pure'' TZP materia
l as well as to alumina and zirconia toughened alumina was observed.
