K. Wolski et al., CONTROL OF CARBIDES FORMATION IN MECHANICALLY ALLOYED FEAL INTERMETALLIC, European journal of solid state and inorganic chemistry, 32(7-8), 1995, pp. 639-648
Mechanical alloying of FeAl intermetallic performed with stearic acid
as process control agent results, after sintering, in high volume frac
tion of perovskite-type Fe3AlCx carbide, unsuitable for ductility and
creep strength purpose. Two methods have been developed to eliminate t
his carbide : one based on zirconium hydride addition and the other on
suppressing stearic acid from MA process. Additionally, unit cell par
ameter and carbon content in Fe3AlCx carbide have been established and
confronted with values given by 29-44 ASTM standard.
