M. Mitomo et al., FABRICATION AND GRAIN-GROWTH BEHAVIOR OF FINE-GRAINED SILICON-NITRIDECERAMICS, European journal of solid state and inorganic chemistry, 32(7-8), 1995, pp. 693-700
Fine-grained silicon nitride ceramics with the average grain size of 1
80 nm or smaller were prepared by hot-pressing very fine, uniform powd
ers at low temperatures. The presence of large grains or phase transfo
rmation from alpha to beta in fine-grained ceramics accelerated the ab
normal grain growth in the form of elongated large grains. The stable
microstructure of fine-grained ceramics from fine beta powder was show
n by the low rate of grain growth during annealing at 1800 degrees C.
