The superconducting intercalation compounds, (AgI)(x)BiSr2CaCu2Oy with
nominal value of x = 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 were prepared and their ionic c
onductivities have been studied by a pulsed method in the temperature
range from 85 degrees C to 270 degrees C. The X-ray single phasic inte
rcalates exhibit mixed conductivity with a substantial ionic contribut
ion. The ionic conductivity (sigma(i)) increases with the increasing x
value and reaches to sigma(i) (270 degrees C) approximate to 10(-1.5)
(ohm cm)(-1) for x = 1.4. Compared with the well known superionic con
ductors, the ionic conductivity for the sample with x = 1.4 is compara
ble with that for Na+-beta-Al2O3.
