Abstract
New arrays of microtubules in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces po mbe, which distribute in the cell in a cell cycle-dependent manner. we re characterized using conventional and confocal laser scanning immuno fluorescence microscopy. During the interphase and prophase, we observ ed abundant cytoplasmic microtubules between cell poles, a peripheral network of randomly and helically distributed cortical microtubules, a nd perinuclear microtubules surrounding the nucleus. At the anaphase a nd telophase, an equatorial ring containing tubulin was visualized. Th is ring colocalized with an actin contractile ring, suggesting that th ey may control the plane of cell division cooperatively.
