This research explored gender differences in the etiology and conseque
nces of alcohol abuse among older adolescents. No significant differen
ces were found in the etiology of alcohol abuse; however, consequences
were different for young men and women in three areas. Men were more
likely to have neglected duties acid women were more likely to have ex
perienced blackouts and to have lost friends as a result of their drin
king.
