G. Narayanan et al., REVERSAL OF LEUKOPENIA WITHOUT PRECIPITATING REJECTION IN RENAL-TRANSPLANT RECIPIENTS WITH GRANULOCYTE-MACROPHAGE COLONY-STIMULATING FACTOR, JN. Journal of nephrology, 8(5), 1995, pp. 276-278
Leucopenia following renal transplantation is not uncommon (19.6%). It
can, however, be associated with serious infections (53.8%) when the
decision to continue immunosuppressive therapy becomes difficult. Gran
ulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GMCSF) can be of immense
benefit in such situations in correcting leucopenia, thereby controll
ing life-threatening infections. Four patients who received GMCSF ther
apy for leucopenia improved satisfactorily without deterioration of re
nal function.
