Abstract
Three cases are reported of Hb S/Hb Lepore combination with very mild sickling manifestations. The presence of a non alpha-chain variant wit h a high proportion of delta chain sequences, including 22 ala, appear s to ameliorate sickle-cell disease. Efforts to increase the proportio n of Hb A(2) may be beneficial in sickle-cell disease. (C) 1997 Wiley- Liss, Inc.
