Sexual fantasies and their relationship with other aspects of sexual b
ehavior were studied in a sample of 131 university women, who complete
d an extensive questionnaire about sexuality. The results indicated hi
gh fantasy levels, related mostly to normative sexual behaviors and to
activities previosuly carried out, which indicate: a function of reca
ll ill these fantasies. Id this sample no relationship was found betwe
en attitude to sex and frequency of sexual fantasies or between orgasm
and the use of fantasies. An association was found between intense de
sire and high frequency of fantasies, and between moderate desire and
sporadic use of fantasies. High frequencies of masturbation appear rel
ated to frequent fantasies, but not the contrary. Finally, women unsat
isfied with their sexual life tended to higher levels of fantasy than
those indicating satisfaction.
