The rheumatic manifestations due to BCG therapy are well known despite
their low rate of occurrence. Although arthralgia is usually the only
manifestation, a few cases of arthritis have been reported and a link
with the HLA-B27 antigen suggested. A case of crystal-induced oligoar
thritis in a patient undergoing BCG therapy for a carcinoma of the bla
dder is reported. The patient had axial symptoms and was positive for
the HLA-B27 antigen, suggesting the possibility of a spondyloarthropat
hy triggered by the BCG therapy.
