Degradation of phenolic compounds in Kohtla-Jarve oil shale ash dump w
astewater (North-East Estonia) by O-3, O-3/UV, O-3/H2O2, O-3/H2O2/UV,
O-3/TiO2 and O-3/TiO2/UV treatment in a countercurrent film absorber w
as studied experimentally. The mathematical model and the simulation a
lgorithm of the processes were developed. The random search optimizer
was applied to evaluate the values of reaction rate constant, mass tra
nsfer enhancement factor, stoichiometric coefficient and volatilizatio
n coefficient for organics into the process models. The evaluated coef
ficients for individual phenolic compounds, total content of phenolic
compounds and COD for different oxidation systems are presented and di
scussed. ''Operation'' of the simulated film absorber (based on the ev
aluated coefficients) and the experimental column are compared.
