This article uses ARIMA and tobit analysis to examine the extent to wh
ich restrictive policies and intensified monitoring of ''hot'' pursuit
s by law enforcement officers induce these officers to ignore requirem
ents that the initiation of such chases be communicated to their super
iors and that complete reports be filed concerning their outcomes. Usi
ng a sample of data covering III weeks of activity, the authors calcul
ated the impact of three increasingly restrictive policies on the rati
o of accidents to reported pursuits. Their findings indicate that male
restrictive policies do not increase noncompliance with reporting req
uirements.
