K. Rupnik et Sp. Mcglynn, THE SIMULATION OF AN UNUSUAL MAGNETIC CIRCULAR-DICHROISM SPECTRUM - THE 5P-]6S(1)SIGMA(-](3)PI(2) TRANSITION OF HI()(0)), The Journal of chemical physics, 103(18), 1995, pp. 7661-7663
The absorption and MCD (magnetic circular dichroism) spectra of the or
igin band of the (1) Sigma(0)(+)-->(3) Pi(2) 5p-->6s Rydberg transitio
n of HI are presented at the optimal resolution consonant with the gen
eration of a reliable MCT) spectrum. The MCD spectrum is complicated a
nd not readily interpretable. The absorption and MCD spectra have been
simulated at three levels of resolution which involved calculation of
the appropriate intensities (i) for each individual roelectronic tran
sition, (ii) convolution of these in (i) with a shape function, and (i
ii) convolution of those in (ii) with an apparatus function. It is sho
wn that excellent agreement of experiment and theory occurs, and it is
suggested that the majority of MCD spectra of the rovibronic transiti
ons of gas phase molecules may be amenable to such analysis. (C) 1995
