Abstract
Simulations are used to show that fluids of charged hard spheres and c harged hard dumbbells have similar liquid-vapor coexistence curves. We conclude that the condensation of ionic fluids is largely driven by t he interaction of ion pairs. The relevance of this observation to curr ent theories of ionic condensation is discussed.
