Abstract
The paper presents the research results obtained in fluorinated organi c compounds, to be used as blood substitutes. Particular attention is given to the inverse excretion rate versus emulsion stability relation ship and to its sharp dependence on molecular weight. Oxygen-dissolvin g capacity, rheological characteristics, and intravascular persistence are also discussed.
