The reaction of Ti with a molten mixture of A(2)Se/P2Se5/Se (A = K, Rb
) at 490 degrees C produced the quaternary low dimensional compounds A
(4)Ti(2)(P2Se9)(2)(P2Se7) and ATiPSe(5). The former is a lamellar comp
ound while the latter is one-dimensional. When A = Cs, a ternary compo
und containing the discrete molecular anion of [P2Se9](4-) (made of tw
o PSe4 subunits connected via a monoselenide) was obtained.
