Abstract
Tetrakis(tetrahydrofuran)iron(II) -carbonyl)decacarbony(mu-hydrido)tri ferrate-(1-)), Fe(THF)(4)[HFe3(CO)(11)](2) (1), was isolated as a mino r product of the reaction of diron nonacarbonyl and tetrahydrofuran in benzene under vacuum. Compound 1 is the first example of a transition metal complex of the HFe3(CO)(11)(-) anion and was characterized by X -ray crystallography and infrared spectroscopy. Contrary to previous r eports, the reaction between Fe-2(CO)(9) and THF does not appear to pr oduce the HFe3(CO)(11)(-) anion as the major product.
