Transcatheter closure of persistent ductus arteriosus (PDA) with a dia
meter of >9 mm is considered to be impossible or at least difficult wi
th the occlusion systems that are currently available. We report a sim
ple technique for occluding oversized PDAs with two Rashkind umbrellas
introduced simultaneously, Using this technique, a large PDA with a d
iameter of 13 mm was successfully occluded in a 40-year-old man. Compl
ete closure without residual shunt was documented by echocardiogram an
d angiogram. (C) 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
