Abstract
The absolute dissociative-electron-attachment cross section for CH3Cl condensed onto multilayer Kr films was measured and found to be as hig h as (2.3 +/- 0.9) X 10(-17) cm(2) (i.e., approximately 10(6) times la rger than that calculated for gaseous CH3Cl). An R-matrix model of ele ctron attachment to CH3Cl reproduces the enhancement and its variation with Kr film thickness.
