FLOODPLAINS SYSTEMATIZATION - DEVELOPMENT OF CONCEPTS AND CURRENT STATE OF THE PROBLEM

Concepts and approaches for floodplains categorization systems existin g in soil geography and adjacent branches of science are considered. T he contribution of L.G. Ramenskiy, R.A. Yelenevskiy, G.V. Dobrovol'ski y and by other scientists to the problem of floodplains classification from the viewpoint of soil-cover structure and agents of soil-cover d ifferentiation is presented. The present-day ideas concerning the prob lem are outlined; they derive from the concept of floodplain massif. T ypology and regionalization of the Chulym river floodplain are describ ed as an example.
