F. Baumgartner et al., VENOVENOUS BYPASS TOR MAJOR HEPATIC AND CAVAL TRAUMA, The journal of trauma, injury, infection, and critical care, 39(4), 1995, pp. 671-673
Severe trauma to the liver and juxtahepatic cava require vascular isol
ation of the lesion. In addition to the techniques of vascular clampin
g and atriocaval shunting, venovenous bypass is a viable alternative t
o repair such injuries. We herein report its use in five consecutive p
atients. The technique obviates the hemodynamic sequelae of uncompensa
ted caval occlusion and the technical dangers of atriocaval shunting.
