BRIDGING STANDARDS FOR DIGITAL TELEVISION BROADCAST

As well in the studio signal processing as in the television receiver the integration of different video media becomes more and more importa nt. This paper introduces a new way of bridging different video produc tion and transmission standards for digital television broadcasting. T he proposed format is based on progressively scanned images and uses a reversible synthetic interlace for transmission. This format fits as well to the interlace based television infrastructure as to the profes sional multimedia production facilities using 35 mm film. Especially f or motion vector based digital transmissions an algorithm is introduce d to transcode the used dense vector field into a block vector field t hat meets the MPEG-2 requirements and enables an appropriate upconvers ion process at the decoder side. This motion vector based reversible i nterlacer is able to bridge the progressive film and computer,vith the interlaced television world.
