r affect on technology. In order to remain competitive, firms have mad
e time compression an important goal. As a result, firms are introduci
ng new technologies at an increasing rate. This is especially true in
teh electronics and information industries. A good example is the Pent
ium microprocessor that was introduced to the market in 1994. In Febru
ary, 1995, Intel announced that the P6 microprocessor, which will repl
ace the Pentium, will soon be available. The product life cycle of thi
s extremely complex electronic device is approaching two years.
