A sample of 585 (317 males; 268 females) adolescents of Chinese ethnic
origin from Hong Kong (mean age=16.1 years) participated in the prese
nt study. Data on concerns as well as demographics were collected. Usi
ng confirmatory factor analytical techniques, a four-factor model of a
dolescent concerns was fitted to the data. The factors are: (1) Health
and Drugs; (2) Future and Career; (3) Personal Self; and (4) Social S
elf. The overall fit of the model to the data was quite good. The adol
escents identified school grades, career plans and future schooling as
primary concerns with concerns about sexuality, substance use and dat
ing ranking last. Discrepancies in the fit of the model are explained
within a crosscultural context. (C) 1995 The Association for Professio
