Abstract
We report on experiments where polystyrene latex spheres are optically manipulated in water by means of a specially designed optical levitat ion system. We measure radiation pressure forces exerted by off-centre d laser beams and compare these with calculated forces. We show an app lication of the experiment to the study of interaction between polysty rene latex spheres and model membranes.
