N. Papageorgiou et al., DETERMINATION OF THE GRADIENT OF LIGHT-IN TENSITY ON ATOMIC VAPOR IN A ROOM-TEMPERATURE CELL, Annales de physique, 20(2), 1995, pp. 131-132
It is shown that in a room temperature cell, the gradient of light pot
ential induced by an optical evanescent wave can be sufficient to gene
rate an observable repulsion or attraction of the atoms. Experimental
observation is realized through Doppler-free selective reflection spec
troscopy.
