To avoid chemical destructions of macromolecules at the polymer surfac
e and to obtain maximum improvement in adhesion properties the short-t
ime exposure to plasma is a good choice. Enhanced quality of surface f
unctionalization can be reached by chemical conversion of plasma intro
duced functional groups. Additionally. molecular and supermolecular or
ientations of the macromolecules and their re-arrangement by plasma ex
posure influence the adhesion properties of polymers. Atmospheric pres
sure plasma is generally suitable for high-speed surface modification
of polymers.
